A Corporate Trainer’s Challenge: Why Executives Fail to Execute Plans

Training is an effort to convey information and knowledge; learning is the assimilation of that information and knowledge into a person’s working memory and long-term memory; execution occurs when the learner receives advanced application methods and strategies that transform the great concepts, information or new knowledge into behavior, into activities that show direct daily results

Most corporate trainers focus on creating engaging workshops, working hard to keep the sessions lively, interesting and insightful. On the other hand, it becomes a hassle when it comes to monitoring post-training implementation. It can be difficult to follow up about training implementation when one is up against busy executives, who always seem to be at meetings, or playing the pass the buck game. 

The biggest challenge faced by Corporate Trainers

The biggest challenge is with Corporate Trainers who fail to properly condition everyone involved, mostly also one of the executives for execution. How many times as a participant, have you attended a course where you heard a great speech, saw some awesome slides, and took some good notes, only to return back and struggle in implementing what you learned? It’s probably more often than not because there are some fundamental differences between training and conditioning.  Training helps us understand how something works. Conditioning teaches us how to execute it consistently.

It is important for a trainer to recognize exactly what needs to be transformed in the attitude and skills of the leaders and employees. Implementing accountability, motivation and commitment and raising communication abilities are just a few of them.
